By Richard Smith THE jury in the Jo Yeates murder trial yesterday retired after a judge warned members not to let emotion influence their verdict.
Jo’s parents David, 64, and Teresa, 58, sat holding hands in the front row of the public gallery as Mr Justice Field summed up the 13-day trial.
Sitting beside them was her boyfriend, Greg Reardon, 28.

Dutch engineer Vincent Tabak, 33, who has admitted manslaughter but denies murdering Jo, 25, sat with his head in his hands. The judge told the six women and six men of the jury: “A lovely young woman with a promising future was robbed of her life.
“Her death continues to have a devastating effect on her family and Greg. But you must not allow emotion to cloud judgment.”
Tabak claimed Joanna invited him into her flat in Clifton, Bristol. He told the trial Joanna died as he tried to stop her yelling after he moved to kiss her.
The judge added: “If you are sure that when the defendant strangled Joanna Yeates he intended to kill her or cause her really serious bodily harm the verdict will be guilty.”
The jury will continue deliberations today at the city’s crown court.
