Deal reached in Johns Hopkins murder case

Baltimore prosecutors will drop murder charges against a woman accused of killing a Johns Hopkins researcher if she testifies against her co-defendant in the case.

The woman, Lavelva Merritt, was charged in the July death of 23-year-old Stephen Pitcairn. She says co-defendant John Wagner, whose trial is set to start in June, stabbed Pitcairn.

Merritt has pleaded guilty to robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. The deal with prosecutors calls for her to spend 15 years behind bars.
Sexual misconduct will be discussed in Prince William County

A spokesman for the Prince William County school system said the issue of sexual misconduct will be addressed with school administrators at upcoming meetings after four teachers have been accused of such behavior in the past month.

David Blount, a 62-year-old Woodbridge Middle School teacher, was recently accused of touching a 13-year-old female student. All four teachers accused of misconduct are on administrative leave.

Spokesman Ken Blackstone said the system will take a closer look at professional development and remind staff about expectations regarding sexual misconduct and inappropriate relationships with students.

All 10,000 employees went through background checks before being hired, Blackstone said.
